Warmest Destination to Celebrate Christmas in Europe

It’s the holiday season, and many people are looking for warm destinations to spend it with their loved ones. If you are considering taking your family to Europe for the holidays, you have several great options for you to choose from. Here are a few.

Strasbourg

Strasbourg is a city known for its beautiful pink-sandstone cathedral, half-timbered houses and the traditional Christmas markets. This quaint European town is also one of the best places to spend the holidays.

While Strasbourg does not have the snowy winters of other European cities, it does have a sub-continental climate that is warm and relatively cool in the late spring and early summer. Its mild temperatures are perfect for long walks and lunches on flower-filled terraces.

During the Christmas season, the main market is a great place to find gifts, mulled wine and hot chocolate. You can find over 300 chalets and stalls scattered across the cobblestone streets.

The cathedral spire can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. There are also concerts, sing-alongs and exhibitions. For a fun diversion, try the Musee Historique de la Ville de Strasbourg, which offers touch-free headsets and hands-on activities.

Aside from its cathedral, Strasbourg has many museums. The OFF alternative Christmas fair has an art trail, street art and live music.

Destination to Celebrate Christmas

Regensburg

One of the best places to celebrate Christmas is Regensburg, Germany. This city is famous for its gluhwein, or spiced mulled wine.

It is also home to the largest Christmas market in all of Germany. The Romantic Christmas Market is held in the courtyard of the Thurn und Taxis Castle.

While the main attraction is the Christmas market, there are several other interesting attractions in Regensburg. During the summer months, you can take a cruise down the Donau River. There are also numerous parks to explore, including the City Park, the Villapark, and the Stolpersteine.

You should also see the Porta Praetoria, the oldest structure in Regensburg. The Roman Catholic Bishop was a key figure in Regensburg’s history. During the time of Charlemagne, Regensburg was an important city. During his reign, Regensburg served as the ecclesiastical section of the General Assembly.

Another great site to see is the Kid’s Magic Forest. At the park, you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of enchanted rides.

Frankfurt

Frankfurt is considered one of the best cities in Europe to celebrate Christmas. During the festive season, the city becomes filled with lights and festive markets. The German markets offer a range of traditional goodies, and are well known throughout the world.

The city’s main square is filled with vendors selling everything from mulled wine to homemade ornaments. You’ll also find old-fashioned carousels, a large Christmas tree, and choirs singing carols.

For food, the main market offers stalls selling a wide variety of meat and vegan dishes. For beverages, you’ll find gluhwein (apple wine) and hot mulled wine.

If you’re looking for something a little different, try visiting the Gondsrother street’s festive market. It’s a great place to buy handmade crafts and treats, and a portion of its profits go to local charities.

Another must-see destination is the Fechenheim Christmas Market. This market is filled with live music, swinging Christmas concerts, and a hog roast. Plus, it’s only a short drive from Frankfurt.

Leeds

Leeds is a great city to spend the festive season. It is smaller than London but has a lot to offer. For one, it’s home to a UNESCO World Heritage site. There’s a whole host of outdoor attractions. You can enjoy a free Park Run every week.

It’s also home to a Christmas market. You’ll find over 100 wooden chalets selling local food and beverages. Some of them even serve mulled wine in a traditional Christmas cup!

Another popular shopping destination is the Corn Exchange. With a Grade I listed domed roof, it’s a great place to go. The Corn Exchange hosts a number of pop up events, and there are also quality drinks available.

Another great shopping destination is the Kirkgate Market. Here, you’ll find 120 high street favourites. You can also visit regular vintage, antique, and record fairs.

You can also check out Leeds’ oldest building, the Neo-Gothic Cathedral. This landmark is located in the city’s historic old town.
